In 1244, according to a statement by Bishop Boniface of Lausanne, the ‘Miracle of Hooidonk’ happened here with a splinter of the Holy Cross.That miracle happened at the inauguration of the chapel of the priory. The priory was founded in 1146 as a final monastery for noble sisters and existed until 1650. When the monastery was expropriated after the Peace of Münster, and. It was purchased and inhabited by Jonker Cornelis Proeningh from Deventer, quail bout from Peelland, and his descendants. It was probably demolished around 1780. Cellar remains still remind of the priory. In 1954 a new chapel was built, using the foundations; and a cross road with sculpture by Piet Schoenmakers was built in the park.

In 1244 is hier volgens een verklaring van bisschop Bonifatius van Lausanne het ‘Wonder van Hooidonk’ gebeurd met een houtsplinter van het Heilig Kruis. Dat wonder gebeurde bij de inwijding van de kapel van de priorij. De priorij werd in 1146 gesticht als slotklooster voor adellijke zusters en heeft bestaan tot 1650. Toen werd het klooster na de Vrede van Münster onteigend, gekocht en bewoond door Jonker Cornelis Proeningh van Deventer, kwartierschout van Peelland, en zijn nakomelingen. Waarschijnlijk is het rond 1780 afgebroken. Kelderoverblijfselen herinneren nog aan de priorij. In 1954 is met gebruikmaking van de fundamenten een nieuwe kapel gebouwd en is in het park een kruisweg met beeldhouwwerk van Piet Schoenmakers aangelegd.
